南会津は樹木に覆われています。 面積は、神奈川県のそれを 少し上回るといわれていますが、その全面積のおよそ8割が森林です。南会津には、ブナの原生林の残る森林とその山里で暮らす人々が造りだした日本の原風景がある地域と言われています。
